Quantum state discrimination

چکیده
It is a fundamental consequence of the superposition principle for quantum states that there must exist non-orthogonal states, that is states that, although different, have a non-zero overlap. This finite overlap means that there is no way of determining with certainty in which of two such states a given physical system has been prepared. We review the various strategies that have been devised to discriminate optimally between non-orthogonal states and some of the optical experiments that have been performed to realise these. © 2008 Optical Society of America

Quantum State Discrimination and Some Applications
Quantum state discrimination underlies various applications in quantum information processing tasks. It essentially describes the distinguishability of quantum systems in different states, and the general process of extracting classical information from quantum systems. It is also useful in quantum information applications, such as the characterisation of mutual information in cryptographic pro...

1. Emilio Bagan Local vs. Collective Measurements in Quantum State Estimation and Discrimination State estimation and discrimination when a number of uncorrelated copies of the states is available is a fundamental issue in quantum information. Quantum measurements, as those required by the estimation/discrimination protocols, fall into two categories: collective and local. The former provide th...
متن کاملOptimal unambiguous filtering of a quantum state: An instance in mixed state discrimination
Deterministic discrimination of nonorthogonal states is forbidden by quantum measurement theory. However, if we do not want to succeed all the time, i.e., allow for inconclusive outcomes to occur, then unambiguous discrimination becomes possible with a certain probability of success. A variant of the problem is set discrimination: the states are grouped in sets and we want to determine to which...
متن کاملAnalytical calculation of optimal POVM for unambiguous discrimination of quantum states using KKT method
In the present paper, an exact analytic solution for the optimal unambiguous state discrimination(OPUSD) problem involving an arbitrary number of pure linearly independent quantum states with real and complex inner product is presented. Using semidefinite programming and Karush-Kuhn-Tucker convex optimization method, we derive an analytical formula which shows the relation between optimal solut...

It is shown that the dissonance, a quantum correlation which is equal to quantum discord for separable state, is required for assisted optimal state discrimination. We find that only one side discord is required in the optimal process of assisted state discrimination, while another side discord and entanglement is not necessary. We show that the quantum discord, which is asymmetric depending on...

The concept of distinguishability applies to quantum states [1] and quantum processes [2], and is strictly related to quantum nonorthogonality, a basic feature of quantum mechanics. The problem of discriminating nonorthogonal quantum states has been extensively addressed [3], also with experimental demonstrations [4]. Typically, two discrimination schemes are considered: the minimal-error proba...
